Bullying is one of the most prevalent and harmful challenges to healthy social and emotional development in childhood. It has significant consequences for both children who experience bullying and those who engage in bullying behaviour, across their lifespan. Historically, societal attitudes and responses to bullying have been mixed. Traditionally, bullying has been viewed by many as a 'normal part of growing up' and received little attention as a public health issue prior to the 1970s.
